I now have 6 FunLux camera’s in my house and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Let me tell you about this system since my video is showing the set up for the individual wifi cameras but I do have their 4 camera system in my house which I had already installed. I had taped the video on that setup but it was deleted in error *heavy sigh* so I’m showing you the other camera that I have.

For starters, this is a 4CH 500GB NVR (Network Video Recorder) that has each camera as a wifi camera. I can not tell you how easy that makes it to install the cameras because as long as your camera is in wifi range, it will work and record back to the NVR. That means no drilling holes through walls or running cables anywhere. I have another system that I also really do like but it was not fun having to install a wired system.

For starters, I did all my set up inside my home and since each camera has a long number assigned to it, if you look at the last 2 numbers, they will show up on your list of cameras that you’ll be installing. If you label each one then you can tell by the position they show up on in the app where you want each one to be placed. For example, in my #1 spot I have the camera I’m showing in the video so I knew where I’d want to place that one.

Each camera plugs in to an AC adapter using a micro plug in so here’s another cool thing about that. I’ve discovered that if you have a power bank, you can plug a micro USB cable into that and then plug that into the camera. That’s a perfect solution if you’re placing the camera in an area without a power outlet or just need one set up temporarily. Granted, the power bank will need to be charged as well, unless you have a solar one like I do, but I thought I’d let you know that’s an option too.

The NVR will plug into a power outlet and then either your router or a network extender if it has a Ethernet port on it. I use the Securifi Almond – (3 Minute Setup) Touchscreen Wireless Router / Range Extender which was also so easy to set up and has 2 Ethernet ports on it. I have that set up in our lounge which is located in the middle of our house since our router is at one end of the house in our office. I have another 4 camera system that is wired so that’s plugged into the other Ethernet port of my Almond. If you do use a network extender, make sure that your phone is on the same wifi name that the NVR is plugged into.

What I did for the cameras for the original set up was use a power strip and plug all 4 cameras into that so I had them all in one spot but I aimed them at different things so I’d know which was which. When you have everything powered on, download the free MeShare app and register your account with that. The app will walk you through the set up and it will seriously be up and running in less than 2 minutes and you’ll see all the cameras working within the app.

Once you see all the cameras, figure out where you want them installed. Keep in mind that you need power for them and I was lucky since I have outlets under the eve’s of my house to plug mine into. Before I mounted the brackets, I had the app open and was looking at the view of the camera to make sure I had them placed correctly. Once you put the bracket on, you have a little movement up or down and left and right but if you have them too high or low, then you’ll have to reinstall the brackets.

From the app, you can set alerts for motion so if the camera picks up movement, you’ll get an alert on your phone. For me, they were going off all the time so I have mine turned off. There’s a camera sharing option so if there’s anyone you want to see your cameras, you can give them access as well and take it access away if you no longer want them to see them.

You can also take both videos and photos from the app which is then saved to your phone within the app, not the NVR since that’s always recording. You can zoom in as well to see more detail but if you take a picture while zoomed in, it will only show the standard view and not the zoomed in view. If you want a shot of the zoomed in, then do a screen shot on your phone.

The night IR (infrared) lights provide a very clear and chrisp shot as well and provides amazing detail. You’ll see examples in my video and photos below and they will kick on anytime they detect low light, not just night time, so if they lighting isn’t good, the IR will kick on. These also will not work at night if you’re trying to view them through glass as the IR lights will come on and that’s all you’ll see is the reflection of the lights on the glass.

Another thing you might like to think of when setting this up is where you’ll place the NVR. If my house is ever broken into, I don’t want that stolen…

One of the best multi channel security systems., December 22, 2015

Please note that my review is strictly based on testing several of these security cameras if not more. I respect anyone’s opinions posted but please do understand that receiving an item for free doesn’t take away from my unbiased review.

A friend recently installed a very similar home video security system that is one of the most popular models being sold at the big membership warehouse club. I was able to compare this one feature-for-feature with that model, which sells for about the same price. Read on to learn what to look for when you are shopping for a video security system.

In a consumer electronics industry where “bigger is better” is being pushed at us all the time, is that the case with a home security system? For example, do you really need HDTV cameras and a 3 TB hard drive? Do you want a completely wireless system? Which features are “must have” and which are gimmicks?

This is a first class 8 channel security system. It comes with 8 cameras that can record in 720P video in color during the day and in B/W during the night using excellent night vision capability. The cameras are made of aluminum and very high quality and they are rated to IP66. That is dust tight and water tight to a stream of water at 26.4 Gallons Per Minute at a pressure of 14.5 PSIG. There is a plastic sun shield on the camera that is adjustable.

The DVR contains a 1TB hard drive that can record over 250 hours of video using four cameras at 720P. That is 15-30 days. The unit features a recording wrap around feature that automatically overwrites the oldest videos when the drive becomes full. There is a USB port which allows you to install a mouse for navigating the hard drive when connected to an external monitor or TV. The internal drive is also replaceable with a larger size of HDD. All of the programing options are programmable to suit your needs. You can record continuously, record on motion, record on alarm or record per a predetermined schedule.

    What’s in the box?
    * 720p 8-Channel DVR
    * Eight 720P Bullet Cameras rated to IP66
    * Mounting hardware for the cameras.
    * 1TB Hard Drive already installed in the DVR box
    * A 8CH Power Supply for the cameras. It is UL approved and it is rated to operate at 100 to 240 VAC and 50/60 Hz. Its output is 12 VDC rated at 3 amps.
    * A DVR Power Supply that is UL approved and rated to operate from 100 to 240 VAC at 50/60 Hz. Its output is 12 VDC rated at 2 Amps.
    * User Manual and Quick Start Guide
    * A very good and updated printed instruction manual.
    * 2 Year Warranty When Purchased from Funlux.

    Cons:
-No HDMI cable provided. For this price range you would think that they would include it.
    -No Optical mouse included.

In my video I show the parts and also the DVR. I also show MeShare App for the Apple devices. You can also use Android devices using the Android app. The MeShare app for android is not so great. I found the iOS version to be much more stable. MeShare has had some ups and downs lately but when writing this review, there servers have been updated and I have had no issues lately.

I tried to cover a lot of detail in the video to help you select this unit and to set it up. The unit has a lot of features and I wasn’t able to show you all of them. I have no doubt that with future software updates, this could possibly one of the best security systems for its price.

I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation in exchange for the sample but I stated that if I provided a review that it would be fair and honest.

Disappointed with NVR system and MeShare App, February 4, 2016

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Funlux® NEW Smart Wireless Surveillance Camera System 500GB Hard Drive — Smart Link Set-Up in Minutes (Electronics)
I am very satisfied and enjoy my video surveillance camera system. However, I did not do enough homework/research on cameras. I now know that there are ones out there with external alarms on them, this is not one of them. Also, I would have liked to purchase one with sound, if they make them, in order to communicate with my mother from time to time at home. I can see her, but will have to call her by phone to communicate with her. For the price and for the purpose I’m using it for gives me peace of mind.

After a few days of having the system, I have to only give this system two star. Initially system worked. A day or two after setting up the system, I loss video completely. As an alternative, I started over setting up the system. It was then the MeShare app only recognized the NVR device and 1 camera. In addition, I couldn’t access my system remotely. After trying everything I knew to do, I called my son-n-law to take a look. He does this type of trouble shooting work with a big company. He couldn’t understand why MeShare app only recognized the Funlux NVR device and 1 out of 4 of the wireless cameras. We then contacted Funlux tech support who, I must say, took the time to try and figure out what was wrong. After about 45 mins to an hour of trouble shooting, they recommended that I send the 3 non-working camera back for replacement. Stated it had to be something wrong with them for the app to only recognize 1 camera. I am sending the entire system back for a refund and will purchase a different kind that will hopefully work.
